Hands Off Our Libraries!

Last Saturday, over 350 Birmingham residents gathered outside the Library Of Birmingham in Centenary Square to protest against the halving of opening hours at the central library.

Birmingham Socialist Party members were out in force, demanding that instead of passing on Tory cuts to essential services like libraries, Birmingham City Council's Labour leaders should stand up to the government and pass a budget based on the needs of people in the city, fighting to win back the money stolen from the city.

The protest featured Trade Union And Socialist Coalition candidates Eamon Flynn, Ted Woodley and Robert Punton, who will be standing against pro cuts MPs in Yardley, Erdington and Perry Barr this May.

One library user said: 'My children did not cause the financial crisis. It was bankers in the City of London; let them pay for it"
