Birmingham City Council Dirty Tricks!

More dirty tricks were on show from Birmingham City Council last week as they attempted to break the spirit of bin strikers.

A beefed up police presence saw coppers shoving pickets and overheard saying "let's nick one today lads" in response to the crime of Unite members mounting a peaceful picket outside depot gates and making sure lorries leaving the depot didn't hit parked cars or oncoming vehicles.

These lorries were allowed out the yard by management and their hired security from West Midlands Police despite workers pointing out multiple safety faults on the ancient lorries and agency workers in them not wearing seatbelts.

With pickets remaining disciplined, the council resorted to making up cock and bull stories about aggressive behaviour and projectiles being thrown. Meanwhile a senior manager ended up driving over a picket's foot outside Lifford Lane!

That this is happening under a Labour council and Labour police commissioner shows there's an urgent discussion needed about how long Unite members' money can get handed over to a party pulling out all the stops to drive down their pay and working conditions.
